I really like this place. Kinda old school sconie bar in west Saint Paul. Cheap booze, north woods interior. Service is friendly and fun. I recommend coming on weekends. The food specials are great. Burgers are consistently good. Simple. Makes me warm and fuzzy in the winter.

3 stars for the prime rib. Ironically, we were recommended to this place from an unlikely source. We first tried it one night when the Cherokee was overbooked. It's right down the street. They have (according to my husband) great fish and chips. Their prime rib on Saturday nights is actually quite good. A frozen or canned veggie will accompany your potatoe choice (no mashed on the weekends...too bad, quite good). The Prime is better than places charging twice as much. Atmosphere for dining? Think camp lodge. But not bad for a quick place to run in.

Good food specials and the pot roast is great. The pricing is very competitive with their daily specials. Nice people inside working the place. Plenty of parking and there is a lot of room inside the bar. This is what a neighborhood bar should represent!

Gallagher's bar isn't anything special, unless you live in a neighborhood near Ohio Street in St Paul and you're looking for a place within walking distance for a few drinks and a full belly. The food is more filling -- and affordable -- than it is memorable. The turkey club sandwich, for example, features american cheese slices. The spaghetti and steak combo plate (even sans meatball) is a bargain and is likely to satisfy any appetite. The dining room is dreary -- so eating in the bar is the best option if seating is available. Gallager's is an active local bar with a full menu -- including breakfast. With that in mind, I think it could be an ideal location to grab a low-cost breakfast with a bloody mary. Best for beers. Maybe breakfast.

My wife and I love this bar. Cheap drinks and good food. We are locals but have found this place good for a drink and some bar food. I love the tacos! Casey is the man btw.

This place is a great representation of Minnesota. The food is ACTUALLY home-cooked and tastes like it. The servers are friendly and... *Pause to bite into pot roast special* Da thpefials are really delifious. *Swallow* The specials are really delicious and priced really, really low for the quality. Skip past the chain stores and stop in here for a meal and a brew.

I will preface this by saying I was a regular here 2 years ago before moving out of town and finally returning to the neighborhood. The patrons at the bar are usually older in age, I'm 32 and I was surprised to be the only person with their phone resting on the bar. This is the type of place that even after being gone for two years the bartender still remembered my name and what I like to drink, that is a real win in my book. This is the kind of place that you can easily get into a conversation with one if the regulars and not feel like you are intruding, the kind of place where the owner will sporadically buy a round for the patrons up at the bar yes it is that kind of place. As far as food goes the club sandwich is a must try with its perfectly thick crunchy bacon. Their burgers are also top notch but this place really shines with its homemade specials like the chicken fried steak both the food and the drinks are very easy on the wallet and the service I have had has always been welcoming.

I've only been here a couple of times, both of which were to watch a friends band play. The band attracted a slightly older crowd than my age range, I'm in my twenties and almost everyone else was 40+. That's fine by me, I prefer older crowds. People my age seem to think getting shitfaced, acting like jackasses and picking fights is a fun pass time. I blame testosterone... The bar was small and jam packed with people so navigating to the bathroom was a pack a lunch sort of process and you had to pee again by the time you got back to your table. Life's a struggle sometimes. There appeared to be a separate dining area in the back of the bar but I didn't go exploring so I could be wrong on that front. There was no room for personal space bubbles, so if you're weird about people rubbing up against you, avoid band nights. I have a feeling that's why a lot of people go, though. There was a particularly drunk man there who I believe gyrated on every other patron in the place. Literally. Hips, butt, crotch, crabs and all.. in a circular motion. On strangers. And it was free! There were only a couple tables to be had. On our first adventure here we snagged one for our group of 6. On the second trip, the bar was as far as we got. I don't have the high pitched shriek-y bar voice so talking to anyone was more like screaming at them, but the band sounded pretty nice. Super farking loud, of course, but it's supposed to be.. On the plus side, the beer was cheap and I threw back quite a few without breaking my budget of $20. The few employees I interacted with here very nice and I never felt put off by any of them. I haven't gotten to try their food, but I would like to go back and give it a shot, if anything to make this review more helpful. Unfortunately, this place looks pretty packed when I've driven past it (I live not too far so I pass it frequently). I'm not really a bar kind of person and neither is Sam. I usually either feel like fresh meat in front of a pack of hungry wolves, or like an invisible lump that everyone trips over. I'm that girl that hides in the middle of her group of friends as to not draw any attention. You know, the life of the party... If there's one thing I've learned in my limited experience with bars in general, it's that the quality of your stay depends almost entirely on the company you keep. Dicks attract dicks and it's not even a gay bar. Moral of the story: I hear the fried fish gives you the shits.

Soggy bun, and burnt bun. Slow service. Burnt burger, and baby glasses for beer, but still good

My girlfriend sings karaoke most weekends. She sings here often. Therefore I go often. It's that neighborhood bar people love. I think people in there come every weekend and go nowhere else. It's an older crowd, so please don't go here thinking you're going to find your next significant other. But when you want to have fun, and be low key, this is the place. They have darts, and the BuckHunter game (have I painted the picture yet?). The drinks are stupid cheap = $3 for a gin and tonic. If they have seen you in the place more than once, they'll write your tab down on a check and you can pay before you leave - no credit card or ID needed to hold your tab. Yep, that kinda place. If you don't want to dance, if you want cheap drinks, if you want to be able to get a drink in your pajamas -- this is the place.

I have been going to Gallaghers for years. It is the neighborhood bar that everyone is familiar with. I credit the ownership for running and keeping the place in business for all these years.... Which can be tough in a competitive market. They have a great breakfast with huge portions for a low cost. Some upgrades over the years shows the attempt to keep up with the times. On the other hand, the main thing that I have to be upset about tis the bar tending service. There are some quality tenders there but there are a few that would rather worry about how cool they look than to take an order from someone. My wife and I have been there multiple times in the past year on not so busy nights only to be passed by at the bar while holding out a $20 waiting to place an order. Last time I checked the sole purpose of a bar is to offer great drinks at a fair price in a timely manner.... If you fail on that than there are many places that can deliver. Good place, family atmosphere and competitive pricing but could use some help in bar tending end of things (mainly the younger tenders). Oh yeah.... Update the bathrooms!

I have never eaten here, but it is a fun place to go for a neighborhood dive. If you show up on a semi-regular basis you start to get to know the staff and they are always a good time. My buddies pulled some decent tabs there the other night and it covered our entire tab and then some.

This restaurant is listed as a night club but Ive only been there for breakfast. Beware if your not a local as you will get an attitude from the servers but its just like walking into a strangers house you will get grilled. Once you get recognized you feel like your right at home. I had eggs, bacon, pancakes, hash-browns and coffee. Pancakes as big as your head and enough butter to stop any heart. MMM good Midwest cooking.

I've been to Gallaghers twice now, and ordered the same dish twice. In the month or two between visits, it seems like their portion sizes shrank. Even though it's still generous, it's a bit of a let down. Food is OK, but OK food is better tolerated if you get a bunch of it. Couple that with rather expensive beer (a pitcher of Honeyweiss is a whopping $15), I don't know when I'll be going back.

I had been to Gallaghers after turning 21 11 years ago and had a round or two f screwdrivers and a beer; the bartender at that time was Woodie and a very nice guy he was. I returned on this recent visit to the twin cities twice and tried the food. The first visit, I had the prime rib with hash browns; tender with crispy greasless hash browns and fresh vegetables with a horseradish sauce that was not overpowering yet had a kick. The salad was fresh with blue cheese dressing mmmmmm. Our server, despite it being her forth day, was on top of things. Round it off with a cold Honey Vice and you will not be disappointed. The second visit, I had their blue cheese burger which was tender on a fresh bun with fried onions and onion rings instead of fries which were crispy and greasless. We had a different waitress who was so full of pep and I had me two Honey Vices to round off the meal. There was some live entertainment on both visits which I don't remember before as it was a juke box which they still have as well. I intend to return again and try more entrees like the sirloin and Gallaghers royal as my uncle said its his fave for burgers. So, for excellent food and drinks in a casual lively atmosphere with friendly service at reasonable prices, Gallaghers cannot be beat. Keep up the good work guys.!
